I am stealing and attaching a very important paper at the end of my rant.
The misunderstanding of kinematic chains by EVERYONE in exercise, physiotherapy, and orthopedics for nearly a century reveals the mediocrity that these fields attract and the need for the rest of academia to act. Trainers and physiotherapists share the largest portion of the responsibility due to their primary focus on movement. However, no orthopedic has identified the problem! On the contrary, the two worst papers written on the subject have been written by orthopedics.
Check them out:
The worst
The second worst
My letter to the journal that published the worst
This begs the question: If a straightforward concept like that is so misunderstood by trainers, physiotherapists, and orthopedics, is there ANYTHING they haven’t messed up?
Penelope Butler tried to address this misunderstanding with a tactful paper published in 2003. However, over two decades later, her work seems to have gone largely unnoticed. Ironically and hilariously, recognition of her work comes from the second worst paper on the subject, which references her work without evidently having comprehended its contents.
